Ukrainian troops have destroyed a Russian Forpost UAS, a system used for reconnaissance and precision strikes, according to the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade.
The brigade said its paratroopers intercepted the UAS on September 22 during a combat mission.
“That Forpost still had a slim chance to escape, since its speed exceeded 160 km/h. But it did not help. We destroyed it… and went to look for a new target,” the unit stated in a post on social media.
The Forpost, estimated to cost about $7 million, is considered one of the more expensive drones in Russia’s arsenal. The system is capable of carrying guided munitions such as KAB-20 bombs in addition to its reconnaissance equipment. Specifications include a maximum altitude of up to 7 kilometers, a control range of 250 kilometers, and a payload designed for both surveillance and strike missions.
The platform was originally developed using Israeli technology and has been in Russian service for several years. It is frequently deployed for frontline surveillance and precision targeting. Ukrainian officials have stressed that destroying such systems reduces Russia’s capacity to conduct long-range reconnaissance and strike operations.
This is the latest effort by Ukrainian forces in an ongoing campaign to degrade high-value Russian aerial assets. In April, the 414th Separate UAV Brigade reported the downing of another Forpost drone during a high-altitude mission, reportedly struck by a first-person-view drone at 4,000 meters.
