DronePort Network has announced the launch of its Community Airspace Awareness Project (CAAP) at Ardmore Industrial Airpark and Mid America Industrial Park. The project addresses growing concerns over low-altitude airspace conflicts caused by the increasing use of drones and autonomous aircraft.
The use of commercial drones is rapidly expanding across industries due to their versatility and efficiency in tasks ranging from aerial photography and surveying to delivery services and agriculture. The rise of autonomous flight systems has further enhanced their appeal, enabling cost-effective operations in sectors like logistics and disaster response. This trend is driven by the growing demand for faster, more adaptable solutions, making drones a valuable tool for many commercial purposes.
CAAP aims to provide real-time airspace monitoring and safety improvements at local airports and surrounding communities through airspace awareness. At the heart of the project is Vigilant Aerospace’s FlightHorizon system, which enhances airspace management by providing real-time monitoring, traffic alerts and long-term reporting at both locations.
“Our mission with CAAP is to empower local communities by giving them the tools to understand and manage their airspace,” said Craig Mahaney, CEO of DronePort Network. “As aviation technology evolves, it is critical for localities to stay ahead and informed, and CAAP provides a scalable, low-cost, introductory solution to meet that challenge with the flexibility to scale for the future.”
DronePort Network sees this project as the first phase of a larger initiative. The company envisions integrating additional features such as active surveillance and advanced traffic alerts for commercial drone operators over time. By preparing communities like Pryor and Ardmore for the future of aviation, the project aims to ensure safety and effective airspace management.
DronePort Network has previous experience with the FlightHorizon system, using it at the Skyway36 droneport in Tulsa, which it manages for Osage, LLC.
Communities and organisations across the US interested in joining the CAAP network can now apply, with a waitlist open for the first cohort.
