Saab has secured two contracts worth a combined €549 million from Airbus Defence and Space to supply its Arexis electronic warfare (EW) sensor suite for the German Air Force’s Eurofighter fleet. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2025 and 2028.
The agreements expand on a deal first signed in March 2024, which covered integration of Arexis on the Eurofighter EK, Germany’s planned electronic combat variant. The first of the new orders, valued at around €291 million, continues that work and has been formally booked by Saab.
A second order, worth roughly €258 million, adds AI-enabled capabilities developed jointly by Saab and its strategic partner Helsing. That contract remains subject to approval from German authorities.
Saab describes Arexis as a fully digital sensor and jamming suite designed to enhance situational awareness and protect aircraft operating in contested environments.
In a statement, Saab CEO Micael Johansson said the deal highlights growing defence cooperation between Sweden and Germany, adding that the upgrade is intended to boost Eurofighter survivability as European air forces adapt to increasingly complex threat environments.
Germany is pursuing a broader modernisation effort for its Eurofighter fleet, with the EK variant expected to replace the Tornado in specialised electronic attack roles later this decade. The Arexis suite forms a key part of that transition, although final capability requirements and timelines continue to evolve alongside Germany’s wider defence spending plans.
