ASELSAN tests GÖKBERK laser weapon against FPV drones

ASELSAN has successfully conducted trials of its GÖKBERK Mobile Laser Weapon System, demonstrating its effectiveness against FPV drones. The system, which plays a key role in Turkey’s national air defense network, Steel Dome, showcased its ability to autonomously detect, track and neutralize FPV drones in multiple test scenarios.

According to ASELSAN, during the latest trials, the GÖKBERK system engaged FPV drone threats with high precision and rapid response times. Integrating ASELSAN’s İHTAR platform with a high-energy laser weapon mounted on a 6×6 mobile platform, GÖKBERK offers both hard-kill and soft-kill capabilities against mini and micro UAS as well as IEDs.

The system employs an indigenous laser source with high beam quality to physically destroy airborne threats while also utilizing an electronic jammer to neutralize drones through electronic warfare techniques. Equipped with electro-optical sensors and AI-supported algorithms, GÖKBERK enhances target tracking and identification capabilities. Additionally, an advanced cooling mechanism ensures sustained operation, allowing the system to engage multiple threats over extended periods.

Turkey’s Steel Dome air defense network

As a component of the Steel Dome air defense system, GÖKBERK is designed to protect critical infrastructure, including military bases, airports, power plants and oil refineries. Its mobility enables rapid deployment to different locations, enhancing its operational effectiveness in dynamic threat environments.

Developed in collaboration with TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and other Turkish defense industry partners, GÖKBERK incorporates domestically produced components, reinforcing Türkiye’s push for defense industry self-sufficiency. ASELSAN continues to refine the system based on data collected from operational trials conducted in varying weather conditions and battlefield scenarios.

ASELSAN’s technological advancements extend beyond Türkiye, as the company continues to see significant growth in international defense markets. In February 2025, ASELSAN reported that direct exports had doubled from the previous year, reaching $217 million. The company’s total export volume, including indirect sales through land, naval and air platforms, rose to $508 million.
