Cambridge Pixel and Weibel Scientific combine efforts for counter-UAS radar

Cambridge Pixel has developed a radar control and display system for Weibel Scientific’s XENTA surveillance radar, enhancing its capabilities for air defense and counter-UAS applications.

Weibel, a Denmark-based company specializing in Doppler radar technology, selected Cambridge Pixel for its expertise in radar software solutions. The XENTA radar is a modern 3D system designed for continuous target illumination and synthetic receiver beamforming, with variants tailored for short range air defense (XENTA-M) and counter-UAS operations (XENTA-C).

Cambridge Pixel was responsible for developing a multi-console software solution for XENTA, incorporating advanced radar display functions, mapping, track management and integration with third-party command-and-control systems. The project was built on Cambridge Pixel’s radar processing software, with key components including a customized radar controller, enhancements to overlay graphics and support for dual-redundant operator consoles.

The company’s modular software approach enabled the integration of various tools such as the Air Situation Display, SPx Track Manager for track filtering and format conversion, Threat Processor software for prioritization and RDR Data Recorder. System resilience was ensured through the SPx Monitor platform.

Henrik Olsson, Product Line Director at Weibel, stated:

“The end-user wanted a mature radar control software that needed minimum adaptations while fulfilling all control and display requirements of the XENTA radar. Cambridge Pixel had both the software and the expertise that we were looking for, and could provide the flexibility and responsiveness we needed to support a successful project delivery.”

Richard Warren, Software Director at Cambridge Pixel, added:

“We are proud to have contributed to the success of this project. By leveraging our flexible software modules, we were able to enhance existing capabilities and deliver a tailored solution that meets the rigorous demands of air defence and counter-UAS applications. This project highlights our commitment to supporting cutting-edge radar innovation.”
