In recent weeks, NATO airspace has been repeatedly violated by unidentified drones, with incidents reported in Poland, Romania, Estonia, Denmark and even over the Baltic Sea.
While Moscow denies involvement, the drones bear hallmarks of Russian or Russian-aligned origin, including similarities to the Geran-2 loitering munition, a variant of Iran’s Shahed drone.
These incursions, if indeed orchestrated by Russia, may be intended to intimidate, probe defenses or sow division. If this is the case, we may be witnessing a strategic miscalculation by Putin.
